This position assists in the coordination of the Salmon Marketing Program which works to increase the economic value of the Columbia River tribal treaty commercial fishery sales. The position provides business planning information to tribal fishers through personal and group interactions, initiatives with other entities, workshops focusing on seafood markets, sales, quality food handling, product development, fisher safety, and other technical assistance. The position also identifies funding opportunities and develops grants and budgets, to secure and manage funds for program components or initiatives. It also works to promote the Columbia River Indian-caught Salmon brand to increase brand awareness and build upon the quality reputation of the treaty fishery through education and increased opportunity to purchase Columbia River salmon from tribal fishers. The position requires good interpersonal skills as it interacts with the four CRITFC member tribes, other tribal entities, tribal fishers, agencies, and wholesale and retail buyers to increase the economic value of the treaty commercial fishery sales. Responsibilities Assists in the development and coordination of strategic initiatives to increase the economic value of commercial treaty fisheries through education and collaboration. Provides business planning information and training to tribal fishers on topics or technical assistance to promote fisher safety and improve sales efforts. Promotes the Columbia River Indian-caught Salmon brand to increase brand awareness and build upon the quality reputation of the treaty fishery through education, coordination, and outreach. Assists in the development and dissemination of outreach materials including print, signage, and website. Identifies funding opportunities, develops grant applications and budgets, and manages the program’s grants by tracking budgets, writing grant reports, and maintaining compliance. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience and specific knowledge of Columbia River tribal treaty commercial fishing activities and experience working with the treaty commercial fishers. The position requires an excellent working knowledge of: Tribal treaty rights, tribal fishing regulations, and the tribal fisheries: ceremonial, subsistence, and commercial Methods and locations of fishing, e,g., staffing, equipment; pools. Markets and pricing, e.g., wholesale, retail, restaurants, and individual. Products: fresh, fresh fish, fillets, canned, vacuum-packed, dried. Food safety (HACCP). Tribal food sovereignty as it relates to the role of salmon being a First Food and the cultural relevance of tribal members’ role in the management of natural resources. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word or Google Docs as preparing grant applications and meeting reporting deadlines are requirements for this position. A level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to develop budgets for grant applications and for monitoring the budgets of the Salmon Marketing Program. Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally. Proven track record to work positively towards a common goal. Social media experience preferred. Supervision This position has no supervisory role. Working Conditions CRITFC Motor Vehicle Policy This job frequently requires driving a CRITFC vehicle or your own vehicle for business (mileage compensated), and therefore you must be able to meet the terms of the CRITFC Motor Vehicle policy. Per the policy, applicants are required to have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for the past three years. This includes a three-year record clear of the following: Reckless Driving Driving Under the Influence Suspension or revoked license No more than two at-fault accidents One major violation or two minor violations.
